Combined, our staff have many years’ worth of experience in Healthcare, specifically in Mental Health and more specifically in Eating Disorders. Our team has worked in the HSE, NHS, Public and Private Services.
Our aim is to provide a truly different service for people with an Eating Disorder in Ireland with progress and recovery of the client at the centre of our care.
What We Do
NEDRC follows WHO, NICE, MEED Eating Disorders guidelines and and elements of the most recent models of care for Eating Disorders and adheres to the Mental Health Commission’s regulations. We tailor programmes and interventions to the needs of our clients while using an eclectic mix of evidence-based interventions. Our clients present with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) or a combination of these along with for example anxiety, depression, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), personality disorders (complex post-traumatic stress disorder).
For adolescents (12 +) we have our out-patient service and our day programme which is predominantly facilitated around the young person’s school schedule.
For adults we provide our out-patient service, day programme and residential (in-patient) service.
Our Programs have been reviewed and approved by private health insurance companies in Ireland. The cost of treatment is covered by VHI Healthcare and Irish Life Health, Garda Medical Aid. The Health Service Executive (HSE) funds clients on a case by case, please contact for advice on applying for funding.
Education: our Centre coordinates with Colleges and Universities and is an approved learning site with for example University college Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD), Dublin City University (DCU), University of Limerick (UL) providing clinical specialist placements for Nursing students studying both undergraduate and postgraduate courses accredited by NMBI and Dietetics students studying CORU accredited four-year degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and post graduate Masters degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
We use Evidence-based, recommended therapies and interventions for example:
- CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Eating Disorders),
- DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy),
- RO DBT (Radically Openness DBT),
- FBT (Family Based Treatment) family therapy is an integral part of the treatment process,
- CAT (Cognitive Analytical Therapy),
- CRT & CREST (Cognitive Remediation Therapy & Cognitive Remediation and Emotion Skills Therapy),
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing),
- SSCM (Specialist Supportive Clinical Management),
- MANTRA (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults,
- Nutritional therapy with our registered Dieticians,
- Finding the balance with exercise with our registered Physiotherapist and Movement Therapist,
- ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
- MET (Motivational Enhancement Therapy)
- Stress & anxiety management
- Body image & perfectionism
- Medical management of patients with an Eating Disorder. We provide a full health and medical check relating to a patients’ eating disorder/ mental illness.
- Onsite Assessment and monitoring as required with NEDRC’s GP,
- 12- lead ECG (trace of your heart),
- Regular Phlebotomy (blood tests),
- Blood glucose monitoring (finger prick test),
- Vital signs monitoring (blood pressure, pulse, breathing rate, temperature, oxygen levels),
- Weight & BMI monitoring,
- DEXA scanning (a scan of your bones- hips, spine),
- Medication and supplements as required,
- Managing gastrointestinal distress (e.g., stomach bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, heart burn/ reflux).

Families are an important part of the recovery process and we encourage their participation but only with your consent. We also understand that not everyone has a relationship with their family and would not force this connection.

The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC) supports a realistic view to health and weight. We incorporate WHO, NICE, MEED and the HSE Model of Care for Eating Disorders guidelines along with elements of Health at Every Size (HAES) principles, Intuitive Eating and Therapeutic Movement. We approach each individual with a holistic view, using the Medical (where needed), Therapeutic, Psychosocial and Recovery models.
