The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC) provides treatment for people with an eating disorder, nationally and internationally. Our clients present for treatment from all over Ireland, for example Kilkenny. We are dedicated to offering Eating Disorder treatment in Kilkenny, supporting those in need locally as well as beyond. Our inpatient services (residential treatment) is available to people who are over 18 years of age experiencing an eating disorder.
Those clients who live in Kilkenny can be accommodated on our inpatient programme. Some of our clients from Kilkenny who have an eating disorder may have the option of friends or family in Dublin who can provide accommodation and this could facilitate those clients from Kilkenny being able to attend our adult day programme. Adolescents with an eating disorder in Kilkenny are also facilitated to attend The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC) adolescent eating disorder programme. Although not ideal for people with an eating disorder in Kilkenny having to travel to Dublin for treatment, the specialist treatment offered by The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC) can offer a hybrid model for these clients in Kilkenny.

NEDRC Residential (inpatient) Programme for adults with anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, ARFID and binge eating disorder in Kilkenny
Who is this programme for?
People experiencing an eating disorder in Kilkenny can avail of treatment in The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC).
Treating people with an eating disorder for example, Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID. NEDRC Residential Treatment: Our residential programme offers 12-weeks+ care to clients who require a higher level of support both physically and psychologically. The programme offers intensive therapeutic intervention and support along with Dietetic and Nutritional rehabilitation. You will receive supportive care and understanding from the team over the course of your treatment. We aim to help you feel more in control of your life without the use of an eating disorder. We have onsite medical and psychiatric care, 24/7 Nursing care with onsite phlebotomy, ECG, vital signs and BMI monitoring including Dietetic input and meal support.
NEDRC offer direct referrals to other required healthcare professionals for example DEXA scan, gastroenterology and endocrinology. Our full-time team of Doctors, Psychologists, Therapists, Dietitians, Nurses and Peer Support Worker is easily accessible to clients when needed. The NEDRC team extends to our Social Worker, Family Therapist, Occupational Therapist (OT) and Physiotherapist who are available to clients and their families as allocated.
The residential programme offers an eclectic variation of therapies and interventions to clients in order to suit the needs of the current client base at that time, e.g., CBT, CBT-E, DBT, MANTRA, SSCM, CRT, CREST, ACT, CFT, RO-DBT, EMDR, Schema Therapy, IFS.
All 8 bedrooms are single, bright and modern and we encourage clients to bring along some of their own home comforts to help them settle in. Residents have 2 large sitting rooms- 1 with TV and the other more of a games room. We also have a quiet room aka “the fluffy room” and a large modern, homely kitchen-diner, we have a tea/coffee room also. There are multiple therapy rooms that can also be used when residents have visitors.
Depending on a client’s individual care plan (ICP), clients on our residential programme are encouraged to take hours out/ overnight therapeutic leave during the programme. This can help clients understand areas that they might need extra support with and can work on this while in NEDRC.
We encourage clients to be active participants in their recovery and our role is to support and provide the tools so that the client feels empowered to enter back into the life they have been missing out on due to their eating disorder.

The Eating Disorders Recovery Day Programme for adults with anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, ARFID and binge eating disorder in Kilkenny
Who is this programme for?
Clients with an eating disorder and living in Kilkenny are provided treatment with The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC).
The Eating Disorders Recovery Day Programme is a therapeutic programme for people working towards recovery from a diagnosed eating disorder. This may include Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder or ARFID.
The Recovery Day Programme is suited to clients who are recovery-focused and are able to manage more independently however still require ongoing structure and support. This programme is also designed for people who have completed our Residential Programme and can avail of the continuity of care from our services.
The aim of the programme is help clients move towards a healthier relationship with food and eating and build a life outside of the eating disorder while remaining in their own home environment.
How will it help me?
NEDRC’s Recovery Day Programme is facilitated by a dedicated team of experienced Clinicians, including Psychotherapists, Nurses, Psychologists, Dietitians, Occupational Therapist (OT) and a Social Worker. A range of therapeutic groups are offered across the programme including:
– Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) groups designed to help clients build insight into their unhelpful eating disorder patterns and target their eating disorder behaviours
– Skills-based groups, e.g., DBT– including emotion regulation, distress tolerance and recovery planning, helping to teach clients a range of skills to manage triggers, emotions and eating disorder behaviours
– Nutrition groups that provide education, support and answer questions relating to food and eating whilst assisting clients to normalise their eating patterns
– Discussion and support groups to help clients build connection, improve the quality of their interpersonal relationships and develop their identity outside of the eating disorder
– Body image groups that allow clients a safe space to discuss their experience of body image and work on challenging unhelpful beliefs and behaviours that contribute to negative body image
– Goal-setting groups that guide clients to live more in line with their values by offering support to set specific, meaningful goals and accountability to follow through with achieving these goals
– Support is provided prior to meal times as well as during and after meals by a range of our experienced, skilled team.
When does it run?
NEDRC’s Recovery Day Programme is held over 5 days per week Monday – Friday.
Each day is different and is an open programme, which means that clients can join any time throughout the year. The duration of treatment is decided collaboratively with the client and our team. However, generally clients will complete the 12-week programme.
Following a GP or medical Doctor’s referral to NEDRC, admission to our Day Programme takes place post a comprehensive assessment.
Our Doctors reviews our clients and we can provide bloods, vital signs, weight/ BMI checks as required.

Our programmes are approved by VHI Healthcare, Irish Life Health, Laya Healthcare and Garda Medical Aid, Clients pay their usual policy excess fee (this depends on your own policy but generally €75-€150 in total).

NEDRC’s Adolescent Programme (12-18 years) for young people and children with anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, ARFID and binge eating disorder in Kilkenny
Who is this programme for?
Adolescent clients with an eating disorder in Kilkenny are able to receive treatment in The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC).
Adolescent Eating Disorder Recovery Programme – Recognising that when an adolescent has an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, ARFID and binge eating disorder, the entire family is affected; our programme is designed to work with the needs of the whole family. We operate on a “no blame, no shame” approach. An eating disorder is no one’s fault nor is it a choice.
NEDRC: Adolescent Eating Disorder Recovery programme for children and young people aged between 12-18 year.
Our Psychologists, Therapists, Dietitians, Occupational Therapist (OT), Social Worker and our Nurses, Mental Health and Paediatric Nurses work directly with parents, families, and other services as required; to provide support, education, and address concerns during the treatment process.
In addition to providing appropriate therapeutic and nutritional interventions, our programme works around the school day/ calendar to ensure each client’s academic needs can continue, as well as educating the schools if required, about the needs of their student.
Our primary goal is to ensure clients receive the best care we can offer, allowing them to succeed in all areas of their young lives providing individualised care, addressing the eating disorder symptoms as well as helping each client reduce existing academic concerns and anxieties as much as possible.
We aim to provide a programme, that when appropriate, allows clients to stay home in their own environment with families close by and be an extended part of the client’s care and treatment. Please see our Therapy Programme for information on specific Therapies we offer at NEDRC.
We will coordinate with Children’s Hospitals and services providing appropriate information/ referrals as necessary.

Outpatients’ treatment for adolescent and adults with anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, ARFID and binge eating disorder in Kilkenny
People with an eating disorder in Kilkenny who do not require inpatient treatment can still avail of our outpatients’ services. Support can be facilitated for people with an eating disorder in Kilkenny with in person or online appointments with our Psychologists and Dietitians, Family Therapist and Occupational Therapist (OT).
There can be some limitations to people with an eating disorder in Kilkenny having online appointments but the benefits you will receive from a specialist multi-disciplinary team (MDT) at The National Eating Disorders Recovery Centre (NEDRC) providing experienced, specialised care from a team who are working with clients who have an eating disorder each day and understand the complications people with eating disorders from Kilkenny face. People from Kilkenny can opt to travel or have appointments online.
